June 28th -- Bowling Green!

When we awoke today we confirmed our decision to move on to Bowling Green for the day.  We had to be back in Nashville for the ZZ Top concert (and our sleeping quarters for the night) but our friends Fred & Fran Gunter were new to Corvette (having bought their first one only last October) and had never been to Bowling Green.  They thought they'd just spend another day in Nashville and head home to Charleston, SC without visiting BG.  Wrong!

I asked:

"If you were on a pilgrimmage to Mecca, would you stop
sixty miles short of your goal?"

They were convinced. So we drove in our little two-car caravan the sixty miles to Bowling Green.

We apparently were NOT the only ones with that idea. There were Corvettes parked all around the museum as far as the eye could see! What a sight!

We were lucky enough to score our favorite parking spot in the handicap parking area (back surgery, 1997, don't ask :) right next to the beautiful metallic red Grand Sport replica owned by Dennis & Cindy Manire:

We spent the day wandering the vendor area, shopping in the museum store, eating and drinking, talking with new and old friends and admiring all the great cars.

We headed back to Nashville around 5pm fully intending to go to the ZZ Top concert.  Fred's a big fan.  We ate (fairly unsatisfactorily) in Rachel's restaurant inside the Opryland Hotel.  Gael and I opted out of the concert and Fred & Fran headed over.  I fully intended to get on line, update these pages, upload pictures -- but fell asleep.  Corvette-ing is tiring...
