The Third National Corvette Caravan
The
Georgia
Caravan
June 24-30,
2003
The Georgia Caravaners arrived starting at about 7AM:
Hot laps?
There were some very nice rides here:
Some of the participants rented a garage for the day:
We had the track/facilities to ourselves until the Florida Caravan arrived. They were expected at about 1PM but, because the Caravan Grand Marshall Andy Pilgrim was at the front, they arrived a couple of hours EARLY!
How'd I know they arrived early? Bob and I were about to head down to the tunnel where the cars enter the infield to photograph the Florida cars coming in. And then we saw Buzz and Jackie Nielsen (from Lithia, FL) already heading for the media center:
.. and then we saw Jim and Charley Robertson:
-- and Andy Pilgrim
-- so we had a pretty good idea that Florida had ARRIVED!
More than 500 Corvettes took advantage of this great opportunity. And at least one Florida couple were on their honeymoon:
There were Corvettes of every generation -- and many more than last night at Road Atlanta.
The "performance" laps involved a tech inspection and helmets for drivers and passengers:
Here's one happy Corvette dude!
So we queued up for the parade laps:
The "parade" laps were faster than any parade lap I've ever been on. 70-80 MPH for most of the three laps. Up on the banking, awsome!
George and Vicki and their team took over the track Media Center and did a great job organizing and seeing that everything went off beautifully.
And, next (tomorrow):
