C5Registry Atlanta Pre-Christmas GetTogether

Rio Bravo Restaurant, Dunwoody,GA
December 22, 1998

It doesn't take much for the C5Registry Atlanta contingent to get together for a beer(s). This time it was to welcome two new members and to put the moves on an uncommitted prospective member.

Brian Atkins, (C5R# W1483) and Mike McDermott, (C5R# W1481) joined recently and when I saw Brian's "New Member" post that said his ride was a 99 Navy Roadster, it seemed like reason enough to meet. Mike's car is a 99 Black Targa and you all know how I feel about that configuration!

A quick email to the Atlanta and surrounding 'burbs members and we were able to get eight of us together at our (now) traditional spot, Rio Bravo in Dunwoody. Present were:

Brian AtkinsW148399 Navy Roadster
Pete ButlerW1005C5-less in Atlanta
Chaz ConeW052698 Black Targa
Frank FortsonW060498 Black Roadster
Jim LantzW054498 White Targa
Mike McDermottW148199 Black Targa
Bruce Melton98 Torch Roadster
Marlene MitchellW065997 Torch Targa

Here are all the cars except Marlene's; she came late (and yes, we are "bumper alignment" challenged).

Left to right Mike's 99 Black Targa, Frank's 98 Black Roadster, Bruce's 98 Torch Roadster, Chaz' 98 Black Targa, Jim's 98 White Targa and Brian's 99 Navy Roadster:

Here's Brian Atkins' terrific looking ride. It's too bad that it was so late in the day that the colors aren't as vivid as they really are. Navy is truly a magnificent color.
This is one of Brian's pictures; you can really see the beauty of the Navy color here.
Jim Lantz gets the "most modified" award with his Mongoose-upgraded C5. Jim's plan is to squeeze every last foot-pound of torque and every last drop of horsepower from his car.
This is my C5 which is completely stock execpt for Jeff Corbel 's wheel and steering wheel decals and Corsa tips. The combination adds between 15 and 20 horsepower at the rear wheels. Really.

And you can see the traffic cones stuck in the back that we use to block off our spaces for Atlanta events. Yes, I AM anal-retentive.

This is Bruce Melton's fine ride. As of this writing he's not yet a Registry member but with the intimidation and humiliation heaped upon him I understand his application is "in the mail". And we won't hold the body side moldings against him..."
Frank Fortson's 98 Black Roadster (ragtops made up nearly half of the attendees, a new record). You'll remember Frank's meticulously cared-for C5 from the July 15th Rio Bravo event.
And, finally (did I mention that Marlene came too late for the photo opp?) here's Mike McDermott's 99 Black Targa. Both his and Brian's (they're business partners) C5s came around Thanksgiving and they've already been autocrossing; I hear Mike scored in the money.

Here's 'most everyone standing around shivering. From left to right: Mike, Bruce, Brian, Jim (asleep standing up) Frank and Pete.

And, finally, the group in Rio Bravo

We had a fine time and will do it again. And a very big special THANKS to Rob Buckalew! He couldn't make it but he phoned in a round of drinks. And now that we have his AmEx number we're all going to the Bahamas!
