Autolifters makes several models for various uses. The only one that makes sense for a home garage is the M6 which they call "mobile", "freestanding" and "versatile". It's all those things, all right.
My application was to stack two Corvettes in the space normally occupied by one. We were remodeling our home so, with an eye to possibly two lifts, the garage was built 20' wide, 40' deep and 9'3" high. The plan was to put the first lift in the back left corner and to back in both Corvettes that would share the lift. This way I could exit the cars toward the center of the garage and the lift could be as deep in the corner as practical.
"As deep as practical" means about 18" from both the back and side wall. The side wall clearance is needed to get beside the lift to operate the controls; the back wall clearance is needed to operate an optional foot jack that can be used to attach the optional wheels. If you're like me, the wheel kit is needed to enable me to move the lift EXACTLY where I want it. I never seem to get ANYTHING positioned correctly the first time!
The lift comes a 1500lb. package measuring about 2' x 2' x 13'. It was quite well packed and arrived via truck undamaged. You can see the pictures of the assembly process here.
When assembled, the lift measures 13'L 8'6"W x 7'H; adding the ramps (which you'll use to get the "lifted" car onto the tracks) makes the overall length 15' 3". This is fine for 'most any garage.
The tracks are 18" wide and the drive-through width is 7'5" (watch those outside mirrors!). The wheel stops and the ramps are interchangeable and removable without tools so you can drive in and out from either end.
