September 2007

    Day 1 - Wednesday, September 19, 2007

Great friend Leah Barr picked us up at 4:30p for our 8:00p departure.   I know, I know, it seems a bit early but that's what Gael wanted and, it's been my experience, that doing what Gael wants always leads to happiness.   It's really not a bad idea as one never knows what traffic mishap might befall us (or ahead of us) -- but in this case we arrived at the airport just before 5:30p.   Thanks, Leah; in addition to that hour driving us, she had that and more coming home during rush-hour traffic.

Security was bogged down at the screening stations (I never found out why) but we were through that mess in only a half-hour of line-standing.   We spent the pre-departure time in Delta's lovely Business-Class Elite lounge on the "E" Concourse.   Like the Crown Room but bigger -- and they had hot food!

We boarded the 767-300 DL 114 and left right on time at 8:00p.   Delta flies "full sleeper" seats in our class for transatlantic flights.   That and good service, good food (real metal flatware and glass (go figure)) plus a wealth of entertainment choices made the nine hour journey to Barcelona just "fly" by (pun intended).

Head flight attendant John agreed to take our first photo for the trip; wish you could see it.  Gael's camera battery was dead (not on my checklist, dammit!) and mine was packed.
