Upon arriving,
..we saw Jake Drennon of the C5/C6 Registry and his lovely wife, Suzanne. Also in the crowd was Walt Thurn who was gracious enough to allow us to display some of his pictures on these pages, along with his lovely wife Diane and son Tyler. Some of the group got to ride around in style:
After we started to settle down, we were whisked off to another part of the tarmac and had our pictures taken under the wing of a Canadian jet trainer. What a beautiful display:
Jackie asked one of the pilots -- since there were two seats -- could we climb up and sit in one:
Well, who would have guessed we could:
Notice Walt taking his own picture of Tyler:
When it was Jake Drennon's turn, he not only was smiling from ear to ear, but made sure the windshield had a C5/C6 sticker on it!
Then we went over to the other side of the compound:
..and watched the air and land reenactment of a battle in a town in France. I have to tell you that it was a real treat to watch the action up close and personal. As the bombers flew over and "dropped" their ordnance, you could feel the ground shake and taste the smoke. The aircraft were beautiful and the land forces seemed to be totally involved:
After watching the air show that followed, we took off for the Vero Beach Airport and the chance to get on the tarmac with some of the F15 and F18 jets:
We met a few of the pilots and many of the crew:
It was a really fun afternoon of talking to all about their experiences and all the shows they are involved with throughout the upcoming season. Notice Jake Drennon trying to get Jason to join the Registry:
After all, a F18 is somewhat like a Corvette. All in all it was a really great day!
