Buzz and Jackie's Monterey Adventure 2002

    Sunday, August 11th

Sunday was yet another early day and we were off to do a poker rally set up and organized by Janet Curran with the able assistance of the Monterey Peninsula Corvette Club in conjunction with the C5 Registry. It started at the Baja Cantina:

Off we headed to some beautiful spots to pick up cards for a poker hand. Information for those of you who don't know what a poker rally is. Of course it's not in the winning. It's just for the scenic ride. We had a great time, followed all the directions and never got lost. Or if we did, we managed to get on route again. One of the stops was at a place called "Wild Things". We chose to take a tour, and are glad that we did. It was a very interesting place. Sort of a private type zoo, with elephants, lions, tigers, reptiles, etc. etc., many of these animals are used in pictures, moving and still:

For example we got to see the EXXON tiger, the lion who was the inspiration for the Lion King, the bear from Grizzly Adams, and many more. Their main purpose is to train the animals, but they also have some animals, which were just in need of a home. We were back by around 2PM, Chaz Cone was moderator for a seminar so he and Buzz headed to the seminar while the girls went to relax. Chaz decided to add an extra person to the panel, as several panelists didn't show and Buzz was here. Being on the board of directors of the National Corvette Museum, he spoke a little about it.

Sunday evening was the black tie banquet held by Monterey del Oro at the Monterey Aquarium. It was a wandering dinner with several different food stations and dining tables set up in several different areas of the aquarium. The food was delicious and the exhibits very nice. What a sight to see everyone in his or her finest apparel, enjoying the evening:

You could definitely tell that Rupert Bragg-Smith was from Nevada, with his formal apparel he reminded us of a famous lawman. A gathering in the auditorium followed this and an auction of an original watercolor painted and donated by Dana Forrester for this occasion concluded the festivities. Again the social aspect of this event was excellent.
