Buzz and Jackie's Monterey Adventure 2002

    Friday, August 9th

Our trip started bright and early on August 9, 2002, like at 4 AM. The normal drive to airport, check in and onto our flight. We want to thank US Airways for all the champagne we did drink since we told the stewardess that it was our anniversary. On our arrival in San Francisco Jackie spotted a man with a sign that said "MDO" and went over to meet Jack Friedman.

We then met up with Chaz and Gael Cone; this was planned by the way. Jack had volunteered to pick us up and take us to where we thought our cars would be waiting. Several of us had arranged for Corvettes. We arrived at a dealership in Cupertino, to find out the fellow in charge was on vacation and no one there knew anything about the cars or for that matter the van they were supposed to loan the festival. Oh well, yes we are flexible and maybe the cars will be in Monterey. So off to Monterey we go. Jack took us along the scenic route, which was lovely. We checked into the Monterey Hilton, gals to the room, guys to handle the luggage. Upon entering the room Jackie found a wonderful arrangement of 27 long stem roses in all colors. As you can see they are simply beautiful.

It was to celebrate our anniversary that was today. What a wonderful sight and surprise. Buzz definitely was the MAN!

Now it was off to find the cars. Jack our very fine driver took us over to the Monterey Hyatt where the headquarters for the Monterey del Oro was located. Here we found our car. A torch red 2000 fixed roof coupe, named RRAPTUR. Ronnie Munro, from whom we arranged to borrow it, had him completely detailed and ready and waiting for our arrival. We were definitely happy campers.

The show organizer, Skip Frenzel, made his rare '91 Aqua ZR1 available for Chaz and Gael:

Having done the entire registration thing for the Monterey Del Oro it was off to find the registration for the C5 Registry and the combined cocktail party. This we accomplished without a problem. Cash bar and some hot hors d'oeuvres. Lots of social interaction took place with both old and new friends.

We met up with several people whom we had met on our trips to Le Mans. Rick and Linda Berry, Jerry and Judy Cochran, Bob Tomczak, and Bridget Kearney, as well as Chaz and Gael Cone, and Dan Adavasio and Jake Drennon, John and Beth Cafaro:

After socializing and meeting some new people, five couples decided to go to Carmel for dinner. We found a charming restaurant named "Piatti" on a nice little corner. Had a great dinner along with great conversation and some fine drinks. Would definitely recommend it if you ever get to this area. It certainly was a long day for those of us coming from the East coast.
