In the item on your web page about how Stan
Kenton discovered the Freshmen it says
"someone" told him about the group playing at
the Esquire Lounge in Dayton, OH. That
someone, who certainly deserves to be identified,
was WING DJ Gene Barry (I think he's still alive;
not sure).
I was the entertainment editor at the Dayton
Daily News and knew Gene quite well. he taught
me much in my future development as a critic.
He also was the hippest radio guy I've ever
known and he could detail info about Kenton or
Como. He really knew show biz and I never
understood why he remained in Dayton through
the years.
