63 - 67 Sting Ray Registry

    Chip's Choice 2005

    By: Dennis Manire

This was the first year Lance Miller selected the Chip's Choice Corvettes at Carlisle.  The theme was parent/child/Corvette memories.  Lance wanted to personify the bond between parents and children and their Vette, just like he and his dad shared.

Our son Steve visited us this spring to go to the races in Sebring, Florida.  He is a big fan of the Corvette race team and wanted to be there for the introduction of the C6-R racecars.  We took our 63 Grand Sport Image and had a great weekend.

We parked in the Corvette Corral, did a couple of parade laps on the track in the Grand Sport, met the C6-R drivers, saw the new Z06 and our Grand Sport was chosen by Jan Magnussen who was one of the C6-R drivers as his favorite car in the Corvette Corral.  We plan on coming back again in 2006 and encourage you to join us.

Before Steve returned home to MN, he wrote his Chip's Choice story.  We submitted his story and a picture of our 67 Corvette to Lance Miller.  Weeks later we received a letter from Lance informing us that we were one of the fifteen cars chosen for Chips Choice 2005.

Steve and I have been to Corvettes at Carlisle several times before the 63-67 Sting Ray Registry was formed.  This year we were able to share the honor of being in Chip's Choice.  He flew in Thursday night and spent the weekend with us.  He really enjoyed his time with us, meeting our friends in the Registry and seeing many of the vintage Corvette race cars on display.  These were the same race cars that we had traveled to see many years ago in our 67 Vette.

Our 67 has won many great awards over the years and being a Chip's Choice in 2005 will always be remembered and cherished.
