63 - 67 Sting Ray Registry
This year was the 50th Anniversary of the 1966 Corvette. 20 examples of the ’66 Corvette were in the “Special Carlisle Display” under the big tent. This was a beautiful display of some very special ’66 Corvettes. Hope you all got a chance to see them.
The Chips Choice cars this year were Guldstrand and Greenwood Corvettes in memory of Dick Guldstrand and John Greenwood who both passed away in 2015. Another great display to see.
Friday began early under the “Registry” tent. We again parked cars in a “fan” style at the front ends of the “Registry” rows. What a beautiful sight, Corvettes facing the road and then as far as the eye can see down two rows side by side. Only at Corvettes at Carlisle will you see so many (over 50) beautiful mid-years parked together.
Friday evening some of the Registry members enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Momma Spriggs restaurant.
Saturday began even earlier than Friday. Saturday is always an “event-packed” day. Celebrity Judging this year also began early, with our first winner being selected before 10:00 am. At 12:00 noon many Corvette engines were “rev’ed up” in tribute to Chip Miller and other Corvette loved ones who have passed away.
Around 3:45 pm Lance Miller and the Corvette’s at Carlisle staff came by our tent and presented the 63-67 Sting Ray Registry with a “Third Place” banner for the 2016 Club Challenge. A group photo was taken by the Carlisle staff for their website. We encourage our members to register early for 2017 Corvettes at Carlisle. Maybe in 2017 our Registry could win First or Second place in this Club Challenge!
At 4:00 pm Saturday, we held our “Annual” 63-67 Sting Ray Registry meeting under the tent. Items of interest for the Registry members were discussed, Door Prizes were given out, and the three winners of our internal “Peoples Choice” car show were announced. Each winner received a nice Award. We also announced all “Registry” Celebrity Picks for 2016. Detailed information for all these winners is listed below.
Sunday was also a special day, the C7R Corvettes were racing at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). Frank Anderson brought in a “flat” screen TV and installed it all under the Registry tent so we would not miss a moment of this exciting race. We have it all happening “under the tent”. What a great group of people make up this Registry!
2017 is the 50th Anniversary of the 1967 Corvette and the LAST anniversary of the second generation of the Corvette. It will also be the 20th Anniversary of the 63-67 Sting Ray Registry.
Because 2017 is a special year for this Registry, we are thinking of a few special “anniversary” events so please check the website for “updates” throughout the year.
The weekend concluded Sunday with the Celebrity Choice Awards ceremony in front of the grandstand. A new record was set this year with 24 members from the 63-67 Sting Ray Registry receiving Celebrity Awards. Congratulations to everyone who won.
See you next year and remember to register early.
