    CORVETTES AT CARLISLE 2005

    By: Dennis Manire

Corvettes at Carlisle gets bigger and better each year.  One of this year's special gatherings was the 1955 Corvette Reunion celebrating its 50th Anniversary.  They had ten fine 1955 Corvettes on display.

The Chip's Choice Display this year featured parent/child bonding experiences shared through Corvettes.  Our 1967 Corvette was one of this years selections.  It was in a special display in Building T all weekend.

On Friday, we spent most of the day in the 63-67 Sting Ray Registry Fun Display area.  It was a time of visiting with old friends and meeting many new members for the first time.  Steve and I also visited the C5-R race cars on display.  His favorites are the blue C5-R's that raced at LeMans:

Friday evening we enjoyed dinner with some of you at the Back Door Café in downtown Carlisle.

Saturday morning we filled all of our 63-67 Sting Ray Registry Fun Display parking places very early.  Again it was a beautiful sight to see so many Mid-Years parked side by side.  Celebrity Judges selected eighteen of our members Corvettes this year.  I picked Mike and Debbie Weiners 67 yellow, big block, convertible with side pipes as my Celebrity Choice.  See the pictures and judges comments of all the winners this year by clicking HERE.

Again this year we held our own Peoples Choice Car Show.  The third place winner was Jim Hartenstein with his 63 Green Grand Sport coupe:

The second place winner was Roy Hazlett with his 66 Laguna Blue roadster:

Our first place winner was Ronald Champe and his 65 Twilight Blue Pearl coupe:

A special thanks to Dick Allyson for providing the prestigious Peoples Choice Plaques.  We also gave away door prizes to some of our lucky members.

Saturday evening many of us participated in the Chip Miller Memorial Corvette Parade.  It began to rain before and during the parade.  The people that had tops put them up, the ones with no tops got wet.  Cindy, Steve and I got wet:

After the Parade we went to dinner at the North Hanover Grill for a evening of good food and lots of laughter.

Sunday was the day we could relax and wait for the awards to be given out and the Giveaway Corvette to be awarded to someone in attendance.

As usual the fairgrounds were full of vendors who had just the right parts, tools or books that we needed.

I want to thank all of you who helped out in the Registry Tent and a special THANK YOU to Dennis Rosenthal for working on our car in preparation for its display in Chip's Choice:

Dennis also was available all weekend giving advice and help to anybody who needed it.

We hope to see all of you at Corvettes at Carlisle 2006.  Be sure to note on your Fun Display Registration that you are a member of the 63-67 Sting Ray Registry so that we will have a bigger Fun Display area next year.  We will also be posting on the web page a basic Agenda for Carlisle 2006 about one month ahead.  So plan on attending the Event and joining us for one or both of the Registry dinners, Award Ceremony and Door Prize giveaways.

PS: We would also like to thank those of you who have already contributed Door Prizes for next year (which we will be storing).
