After about two months of driving five miles back and forth to the golf course, there was something missing. Maybe it was FM radio -- or air conditioning -- or power steering -- or radial tires -- or the fact that Kim did not want to drive the car. But something was not as I imagined it would be. So I began searching the internet to see what I could do to modernize the car (new chassis, new engine, etc.) After talking with my dad, who told me I was crazy to do that to a classic, I realized he was right and I needed a new idea.
So off I go to Naples, FL to play golf and lo-and-behold I see this black, retro-looking BatMobile cruisin' down past the Inn at 5th St. Of course another great idea comes to mind. When I arrive home I tell my lovely wife what I saw and that I was going to look into it. Her response this time was, "That’s fine dear, just make sure I have my spot in the garage" Well, I think it was something like that.
So after Christmas I begin my search regarding the retrovette that I saw in Naples, and sure enough I came across AAT’s website, the 53CE, and of course Chaz’s site (this one) and I was hooked. After talking with Steve Sr. three times on the phone, I went to a car show in Baltimore, MD where I met Jerry and Lori Brewis (#97), probably two of the nicest people I ever met. They did not know me from Adam, but I had called Lori about their 53CE and to see if they were going to be there in the show, which they were. Jerry took an hour and a half of his time and spoke about the 53CE and all the positive things about AAT. I was really impressed and I couldn’t thank him enough. So I was left with only one option: I booked a flight out and met with Steve Jr. at the AAT facility.
I have to reiterate what everyone before me has said, these guys are the nicest folks you ever want to meet. They run a first-class facility, take the time to explain everything to you, and go head and shoulders above and beyond what you would expect. They are top notch and I am sure everyone that has dealt with them agrees.
After meeting with Steve Jr. on Thursday afternoon, I flew home Friday, flew down to Charlotte, NC Saturday morning and purchased a 2003 Anniversary Edition Corvette:
But we all know the same thing……it’s worth the wait!!!
