    The Process

    September 9, 2002

Today friend Mo Waller went by AAT and took these pictures of our car under-way!

This is our donor C5 with all the body panels off except the doors.   The unpainted nose in the left foreground is Chaz & Gael's project:

Here's the view from the right rear:

And this is our car on the right with Chaz & Gael's project on the left.   Their new panels are on for fit; they'll be removed and painted off the car and reinstalled:

These photos were taken by Steve Pasteiner today.

    From the right front corner:

Here's a view from the right-rear corner with the new body panels applied to the car for fit.   Notice the Carmine doors and rocker panels are still in place:

This one shows the whole car.   Just the original doors, rocker panel and convertible top hatch remain:

From the right side with all the interior trim removed; really looks stripped:

From the back showing the entire "office" stripped out:

Here are all the interior trim pieces dye/painted and ready to reinstall:

The body panels have all been fitted and trued and are now removed for painting leaving the car pretty naked:

Here are the front section, rear section and hood, sanded and ready for primer:

    The plan

Steve tells us that the car will be finished next week and will be in Atlanta (along with Chaz & Gael's) on Thursday or Friday (10-17,18).   If that's so, we'll likely fly to Atlanta (we're going on an overnight rally from there) and use the CE on the rally.   Or, we'll drive up and drive both cars home.   Or it won't happen in time and the CE will be delivered to Lithia.   If that happens and we've already flown to Atlanta we'll use one of Chaz and Gael's Corvettes on the rally.   Or.....

Looks like it's ready to paint.   If this stage works like it did for Chaz & Gael's car, we're closing in on the finsh!

This view shows how they mask the car to paint the panels that cannot be removed and painted off the car:

Looks like the primer coat is on the big panels and the rest are about to be primed:

The inside (at least) of the deck cover and hood already have a white coat:

We appreciate the care they use to prevent overspray on the frame parts:

These pictures were taken this morning.   Here's an overhead view of the interior:

    ..and closer-up:

Finishing touches being made to the rear section:

The doors look ready to install:

The rest of the panels are done but still drying in the paint booth:

    The Plan (final):

Present plan is for our CE (along with Chaz and Gael's) to leave Michigan Friday (that's day-after-tomorrow) on Reliable Carriers (enclosed transporter) and to arrive in Tampa on Tuesday.   Less than a week away!!!!
