Drivin' in the Peach Bowl Parade

Friday, January 2, 2004

Good friend Ron Floyd organizes a fleet of Corvettes each year to carry dignitaries in the Peach Bowl Parade.   This year, Tennessee meets Clemson tonight at 7:30p on ESPN.  Talk about your "ORANGE" EVERYHERE!

The parade is sponsored by Chick-fil-A.   It runs through downtown Atlanta with bands, clowns, motorcycles, floats -- and 20 Corvette convertibles mostly from our club, Classic Glass.

If you've done parades you know that they are (how shall I put this.....) not the most crisply organized affairs imaginable.   Everything is changing all the time.   This one was no exception.

We met in a parking lot at Cumberland Mall:

When we got to the (first of many) rally point, we weren't alone. This guy had a nifty ride even if NOT a Corvette:

Here we are at the second rallying point:

As usual, there's confusion. Ron was told (by the dude on the right) to pick three cars and go pick up some dignitaries at the World Congress Center:

Here we are, the three of us, waiting on the three dignitaries we were sent for. Who never showed up:

> We went back to the rallying point and took a look at what was happening while waiting for the parade to start:

It was easy to remember who sponsored the parade:

Finally the line started to queue up -- and the three of us that had been sent away were sent to the front of the line:

> ..and this was our view looking back at the rest of the front of the parade:

After that, things started to move and I wasn't able to take any more pictures...
