Our ScaleVisions model arrives

Saturday, February 1, 2003

Shortly after building the 50th Commemorative site I became aware that an artist named Don Theune (ScaleVisions) was planning to offer a 1:24 scale model of the 1953CE.

Don is pretty famous for building models of whatever "your" car is; he's a true artisan.   Check out his website by clicking HERE.

Anyway, I added a link to his page on the main 50th Commemorative page and ordered up a model of our CE.   These models are different from Don's other work in that, usually, he's able to begin with an existing model and customize it from there.   In the case of the CE, he had to develop the body from scratch and have it cast himself.   He pored over the brochure, other photographs and existing cars -- and developed his own mold for the car.   With the body in hand, Don then meticulously constructs the model and trims it identically to "your" car.

Don's objective is to build a model that is undetectable (in a photograph) from the real thing.   I'm very impressed and delighted with the one he built for us.   For example, ours is the only one (so far) with an oak top.   For another, I attached 50th Anniversary badges to my car, put a "Heartbeat of America, Yesterday's Corvette" plate on the front AND have a personalized Georgia tag "53 CE".   Don duplicated it all.   And then he put an Advanced Automotive brochure on the passenger seat!

Enough words.   Just look at this!

And, though you can't see it in these pictures (yet) there's a Corvette keyfob and keys in the ignition!
