Our 1953 Commemorative Edition Corvette Story

Chaz & Gael Cone, Atlanta, GA

First car show

Saturday, November 2, 2002

Today there was a "Corvette Only" show to benefit the 50th Anniversary Georgia Caravan.   Bill Heard Chevrolet, Kennesaw, GA hosted it.   There were about 40 participants, all generations.

They saved me a good spot..

..and the car drew a pretty nice crowd.

Everyone was most gracious and the most common remark (which I've heard a hundred times so far) "That's what Chevrolet should have done for the 50th Anniversary!"

A special treat was the Corvette parked next to mine; it belongs to Bob Horvath from Murphy, NC.   My first Corvette was a 1960 Sateen Silver with white coves ..  and except for the interior color (mine was blue) it was exactly like the one next to the 1953CE.   Even if it was from North Carolina...  :)

There were a lot of friendly folks from several area clubs..

..  and some terrific Corvettes:

The weather was perfect (if a tad on the cool side).   Of course, Ron Floyd's famous hamburgers and hot dogs made the day extra special:

Gael came to visit for a while so we had two C5s from the Cone family there for a while.

We were honored to place first the C5 category (even if they announced the win as "a Corvette that doesn't know what generation it is...")

Ron and Robin Floyd's '57 won "Best in Show" (deservedly so!) and it helped me settle exactly where the 1953CE's hood ornament came from.   Here's the one from Ron and Robin's '57:

..and here's the one from the 1953CE:

So I guess we know now what AAT uses!
