Our 1953 Commemorative Edition Corvette Story

The Beginning

Monday, August 12th

At the "17 Mile Dinner" at the Taste Cafe & Bistro on Monday, August 12th I asked folks which of the attendees owned "that car".   They pointed me to a guy who turned out to be Ted Springstead of Port Townsend, WA.   I imposed myself into Ted's space and quizzed him unmercifully until he gave up Steve Pasteiner's phone number (Nah, it was easy!)

Tuesday, August 13th

Tuesday morning I called Steve and introduced myself.   We talked for a while (I opened with, "I saw Ted Springstead's car here in Monterey and I want one!".   Not the best negotiating position, I guess, but truthful for sure).   He explained how the process worked including the strict "first in-first out" policy he'd developed.   In other words, orders are accepted in the order that the "donor" C5 Convertibles arrive at his shop in Rochester Hills, MI.   Fair enough; but I have a tiny problem:

I don't OWN a C5 convertible!

I presently have three Corvettes but my only C5 is a 98 Black Coupe -- and the conversion can only be done to a convertible or a hardtop/Z06.   I guess I'd better get busy.
