Children's Miracle Network Miracle Ride
"Big Bikes for Little Tykes"

Sunday, September 14, 2003

This is a first-time event organized by some local motorcycle clubs, Southern Rider's Association and Greater Gwinnett Motorcycle Club (to name just two).   Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (the "Children's Miracle Network" folks) asked for some sports car convertibles to follow the expected 100+ motorcycles and give a ride to some of the Miracle Kids ("Miracle Kids" are survivors of illness who were so gravely ill that they were not expected to survive treatment -- but did).

The event is a police-escorted cruise of about sixty miles starting and ending at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, GA.

They'd arranged for an MG club to provide rides for the miracle kids but they dropped out a couple of weeks before the event.   Somehow the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta people located Tom Wilcox (President of our Classic Glass Corvette Club) and, in virtually minutes by email, he lined up more Corvettes than were needed!

Turned out they only needed seven Corvettes so seven of us assembled at the Abernathy Park & Ride in Sandy Springs for a mini-caraven to Conyers.

(Yes, I know there are only five guys pictured; I'm behind the camera (as usual) and Bob White met us in Conyers).
Left to right are Bill Gohr, Freeman Hollomon, Tom Wilcox, Calvin Cruce and Gene Jablonski

We arrived at the Horse Park about 10:15a and there were a couple dozen motorcycles already there:

The motorcycle leaders helped us park the Corvettes.   For some reason, we wound up in the sun while they were in the shade (see photo above)!

Here's Tom and our contact with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Missy Valentine:

Lots more bikes arrived (97 in all!) before we rolled out at noon:

The organizers gave us nifty commemorative T-Shirts:

(That's Bob White on the left and perspiration on Bill..)

Here's the eldest (at age 14) of the Miracle Kids who joined us on the cruise; this is Timothy:

The seven Miracle Kids there got to choose which Corvette they wanted to ride in.   We had four C5s, a C4, a C2 and (of course) our CE.

Here's "my" Miracle Kid Bryce age 10:

..and this is Gene's Miracle Kid, Claire (seems young to be driving..):

..and here's all of us; we had a great time!
